Los Angeles Rams Have Pride

As Pride 2017 kicks off, people all over the country are showing their love and support for the LGBT+ community. The LA Rams for example, are breaking ground in showing inclusiveness in sports. After being the first team to draft an openly gay player, Michael Sam, they’re still creating history today. The NFL team has officially become the first ever NFL team to sponsor a gay pride event.

The team has joined Venice Pride, the organization that holds the Pride Block Party every year. Starting June second, each letter in the famous “Venice” sign will be lit a different color, similarly to each color in the Gay Pride flag, the Rams sponsor the blue lights in the letter “C.” A spokesperson for the Rams stated the team is proud to,

Stand in alignment with the LGBT community that is such an important part of the fabric of Los Angeles. Inclusion has always been a valued part of our organization and we see this as a unique way to publicly celebrate the diversity that makes this community so special.

Not only are the Rams sponsoring the event, the LA Chargers have now also joined in to sponsor Pride, making them the second NFL team to sponsor a Pride event. Grant Turck, executive producer of Venice Pride is thrilled and excited to have both teams on board.
