Recording Academy To Honor Dr. Dre For His Production Legacy
Dr. Dre, the producer who is behind the beats for artists such as Tupac, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent just to name a few is being honored by the Recording Academy for his innovating production work. It was announced by the Recording Academy that its “Producers and Engineers Wing” will be paying tribute to Dr. Dre on January 22 at Village Studios in Los Angeles. This event will take place just four days before the 2020 Grammys.
Dr. Dre whose real name is Andre Young has won six Grammy awards, three of them he won for engineering or producing. The Compton native came on to the music scene as a co-founding member of the controversial group N.W.A. which he ended up producing some of the group’s groundbreaking records on the 1988 debut, “Straight Outta Compton.” He even helped the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige get her first number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with producing “Family Affair.”
