Tiffany Haddish Living Lavish
Tiffany Haddish. Hearing her name may be for the first time for many, but it surely won’t be the last. She’s made a name for herself that has now echoed throughout Hollywood. Tiffany Haddish has been out here doing her thing. It is us that are just now noticing her shine.
This article covers Tiffany’s rise to the top, giving her the credit she is due for breaking through her various barriers and bringing us comedy…uncensored, unmatched and unforgettable. Personally, my first sight of Tiffany Haddish was in playwright David E. Talbert’s What My Husband Doesn’t Know (2012). Haddish played Falana, a sassy best friend to a married woman needing to put the spark back into her marriage. The married woman was played by former Destiny’s Child member, and singer, Michelle Williams.
Haddish gave life to her character Falana, with her sexy tips and random pop ups to the married woman’s home to make sure she stayed on point. Haddish was no amateur on stage even while sharing it with veteran actors Brian White and Clifton Davis.
Still, Haddish had no problem expressing herself in the play. Her energy on stage had every audience member falling out of their seats. Who knew that in five years, we would know Haddish as the comedic star who hasn’t lost her juice since then? Nobody…but Haddish’s background story is proof that people who go through the most can tell the best stories and are destined for greatness.
In an interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, host Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy sat down with Haddish. A good five minutes hadn’t even passed in the interview when Charlamagne commented that Haddish’s background story got him interested in her as an actor and comedian.
“Wow. I like people who been through it”, he said.
Get your tissues ready, this isn’t easy to tell…
Young Tiffany learned how to take care of her family by the tender age of nine. She learned how to cook, care and provide with no other choice. Her mother suffered from a car accident that changed her life and the lives of her children forever. Her mother was a successful businesswoman prior to the accident.
At nine, Haddish was already the oldest of 5 children total.
“At nine years old, my mom had to learn how to walk, talk, eat, everything again. So basically, everything she has taught me up until that point, now I’m turning around and I’m teaching her…I was like a full-on mom, like, right away.”
The doctor taking care of her mother made it clear that Haddish had a big responsibility now and that her mother would not be the way she used to because the accident had triggered her mother’s head and schizophrenia. Haddish tried her best to manage her mother’s businesses and documents so that her and her siblings could still survive. At 21-years-old, she felt like she wasn’t fit for her responsibilities, but, she was reassured that she was meant to be here anyway.
“My step-dad had cut the brake lines, I found that out”.
Haddish and her siblings could have been in the same car as their mother, however, the outcome would have been even worse. Haddish chose to stay home and take care of her siblings the day of the accident, avoiding its expected outcome had she and her siblings been in the car.
The title of this interview segment on The Breakfast Club YouTube page is “Tiffany Haddish Speaks On Girl’s Trip, Escaping Death, Raising Her Siblings & More”, because this is the real that Haddish talks about during the interview. However, is the studio silent as she’s telling her story? No. Even in her tears, she still finds a joke or two to crack while she’s telling her story. Haddish has been through it, but her smile still peaks through and it’s beautiful!
Haddish has killed 2017 sitting alongside actors, Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith in the #1 movie, Girl’s Trip. Four girls were close from birth until college. They went through everything together until their lives separated based on circumstances relatable to women in real life. They reunite together to rock the Essence Festival and individually find their truth. (Get the full movie review with TooMuchInfo’s @kiersten_dm, “Girl’s Trip Review”).
Haddish plays “Dina”, very comparable to Falana. Haddish sticks to her own personal self in all her roles. She’s funny, crazy, cute, and you never know what’s she’s going to say or do next. Don’t we all have that one friend?
Another most recent role for Haddish is on NBC’s The Carmichael Show. She plays “Nekeisha”, an outspoken, bold and free-spirited young woman separated from her husband, Bobby (Lil Rel Howery), the brother of the main character of the show, Jerrod Carmichael.
What’s even bigger is that Haddish is finally giving us a stand-up special! Yes! The special is called She’s Ready! From The Hood To Hollywood. It fits for a story like hers. It’s an hour long…yes, only an hour. But, hey, we got this far. If we beg enough, hopefully, she’ll give us more specials!
The show was taped in Los Angeles, her hometown. It airs on SHOWTIME ®, this Friday, August 18th at 9PM ET/PT
So, let’s do the right thing and support our girl this Friday! We have to support her like a BET Awards show.
Tiffany is a moving force and I can’t wait to see what’s next and next and next!
