Five Months & Running

Being five months pregnant with baby number two, isn’t going to slow down or stop runner and former Olympian, Alysia Montano. Montano raced at the USA Track & Field Championships on June 22.

Although Montano finished last out of the 30 sprinters she ran against in the first round of the Women’s 800m, she definitely made a statement with her baby bump poking out under her Black Wonder Woman themed sports bra.

To most, running while being five months’ pregnant sounds a bit odd, but to Montano, this is nothing new. This is her second time competing while being pregnant. Her first time was back in 2014, where she ran this same exact race while being eight months pregnant with her first child.

“My mission as a mother, as a daughter, as a sister, as a friend, and as a human is to always fight for good and the empowerment of others,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I hope that one day my children can look at the world through a lens filled with kindness, compassion, hope, empowerment and purpose. I hope when my children think of me in their pursuits they might see me as an example of strength and not only think ‘Strong like Mom,’ but perhaps they may see their abilities and think ‘Stronger THAN Mom.”

If any of you are like me, you’re thinking, “is it safe for this women to be competing in such a …. competition?” According to Montano, her first child Linnea was perfectly healthy at 7 lbs., 15 oz., which she carried to full term.

Talk about BLACK GIRL MAGIC!!!!
