FMU To Honor Trayvon Martin

How old would Trayvon Martin be now? 21…with a college degree. Although no longer with us, Trayvon Martin’s life lives on through his spoken passions.

It’s reached five years since the Florida shooting of Trayvon Martin, but his life as the world knew it before now makes room for a positive token of honor.

Florida Memorial University, a historically black institution, announced via Facebook that they will be honoring Trayvon with a posthumous Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Aviation.

Trayvon joins FMU’s graduating Spring class of 2017 lions as it would have been initially.

According to Tampa Bay Times , in an article published after his death, Trayvon loved flying and working with his hands. He had dreams of becoming a pilot or mechanic in aviation.

At a young age, Trayvon took advantage of his school skills. He loved math! Trayvon even took a cockpit ride with Barrington Irving, the first and youngest black male to pilot a plane.

On this following weekend during the FMU’s Spring graduation ceremony, the degree will be handed to Martin’s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, a FMU alumna. Both parents are no strangers to activism.

Soon, the world can think on Trayvon’s positive goals. Congratulations and rest in power, Pilot Martin!
