Michelle Obama Wrote Yara Shahidi A College Recommendation Letter!

Anyone who went to college understands the stressful application process and the requirement of a recommendation from a prestige person. Well “Black-ish” actress Yara Shahidi has received the best recommendation letter any women could acquire and it’s from none other than former First Lady Michelle Obama.

During a meeting W magazine issued Wednesday, the "Black-ish" star discussed the support she's got from the previous first woman, who penned recommendation letters to four colleges, including her alma mater Harvard.

“I’ve been working more than half of my life and that’s always been balanced with school and all of the other responsibilities, so to have a year to focus on work and to focus on specified interests will be nice before I pick a career and choose what I want to study and my life path,” she tells People magazine.

“She is very amazing and such a supporter, which is something very surreal to say,” Shahidi said, adding that Obama told her to “go get ’em, tiger” before she took her AP exams. The 17-year-old actress plans to double-major in African American studies and sociology and she wants to have “a more unorthodox college experience” by deferring at least a year, she told People in October.

Like Malia Obama, Shahidi says she will use the yearlong gap to recalibrate her life and career.

Until then, Shahidi is in talks to star in a rumored “Black-ish” spinoff that would follow Zoey in college, according to Deadline.
