Nipsey Hussle Releases Surprise Mixtape
2016 has been an eventful year for Los Angeles rapper, Nipsey Hussle. He slowly emerged into the mainstream spotlight due to his features with artists like YG, MMG, and 50 Cent, and because of his high profile relationship with actress Lauren London. The Crenshaw rapper has always stressed the importance of thinking and moving independently. Though he isn’t signed to a major record label, he still makes a name for himself with his own record label, All Money In Records.
Nipsey Hussle made headlines back in 2013 when he released his mixtape, Crenshaw. The reason why Crenshaw gained a lot of media attention and traction because he charged people $100 to buy the mixtape with the #Proud2Pay Campaign. Though it wasn’t mandatory, it was advantageous to him and his fanbase. People who bought Crenshaw, would get an autograph on the mixtape, a Marathon hat & crewneck and a personal note thanking them for the purchase. That’s a solid deal for only $100.
Since the beginning of May, Nipsey started another campaign called Marathon Mondays. Every Monday since the beginning of May, Nipsey would release a song for listeners until the release of his highly-anticipated album, Victory Lap. Marathon Mondays lasted all the way until this past Monday which was also the Crenshaw rapper’s 31st birthday. A couple days after his birthday, Nipsey released a surprise mixtape called Slauson Boys 2. The mixtape is essentially all of the songs he released from Marathon Mondays and put it all into a mixtape. It can be downloaded on datpiff.com. It is worth a listen.
