BET Award 2016 Recap

Yesterday the annual BET Awards show was held in L.A. and was less than expected…GREAT. While we haven’t seen a performance from Queen Bee ‘Beyonce’ in a while at an award show, she took the stage yesterday and surprised us with a fantastic one at the BET Awards. She performed her hit single ‘Freedom”ft Kendrick Lamar as she splashed across the stage full of energy and excitement. Due to her Formation World Tour she is on she was unable to accept her award for Video of the Year so her mother Tina Knowles did the honors. Desiigner also took the stage performing his hit song ‘Panda’.  After his thriller performance he is now a meme that is going around all over the internet. R.I.P. to legend Prince. A tribute was done in honor of him and his great work by a many musicians such as Jennifer Hudson, Erykah Badu, Roots and others. They sang a few of his songs and comedian Dave Chapelle was there to lighten the mood by introducing Badu and the Roots. Prince was a huge fan of Chapelle so he was honored to be a part of another milestone in history. You can watch this tribute here:

As Jesse Williams took the stage to accept his award for humanitarian of the year he also gave a powerful speech. He discussed how the award he received wasn’t just for him but also for the black people who understand that the system built to break us cannot and will not if we stand together. His most popular line from the speech that is surfing all over the web right now is “Just because we’re magic doesn’t mean we’re not real’.  You can watch the full speech here :
