Alicia Keys Like You’ve Never Seen Her Before!

Alicia Keys has always been an artist you can count on to give you the realness when it comes to her music; with her talented ability to play the piano and while providing you with soulful vocals. But it wasn’t until recently that she gave you her true authentic self. Alicia keys photo’d with no makeup! She posted a picture for what she revealed, will be the cover of her new single “Common” about four weeks ago; in which, was a social media hit, leading her to start promoting the hash tag "no makeup". Recently, Alicia Keys took the time to pen a powerful open letter on Lena Dunham’s website, TheLennyLetter.com, on how she struggled being her true natural self and accepting her true raw natural look. In a song she wrote for her new upcoming album “When a Girl Can’t Be Herself”, it says:

“In the morning from the minute that I wake up  / What if I don't want to put on all that makeup / Who says I must conceal what I'm made of  / Maybe all this Maybelline is covering my self-esteem”.

But even after writing such beautiful lyrics, it didn't instill in her that she was beautiful until the day that her photographer Pauola suggested that she take pictures of Keys in her true natural state; with no makeup. Although, that wasn't part of the plan for the photo shoot, keys said:

“I felt powerful because my initial intentions realized themselves. My desire to listen to myself, to tear down the walls I built over all those years, to be full of purpose, and to be myself! "

“I just feel women are the most magnificent species”-Alicia Keys, Fault Magazine.

This is so positive, and much needed now a days, especially with women feeling obligated to change their appearance for the sake of likes for the gram! Alicia ended her letter by saying:

“I hope to God it's a revolution 'Cause I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.”

Go Alicia!
