Yes, you heard that right! Viola Davis is finally getting her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The actress will be starting of 2017 with a huge career milestone, joining the likes of Aretha Franklin, John Travolta and Luther Vandross. Set your calendars for January 5th, 2017, days before the Golden Globes, and watch as another Hollywood great, Meryl Streep, salutes davis as she receives her star.
Davis will be the 2,597th star on the Walk of Fame. Producer Ana Martinez described Viola as an actress who “always mesmerizes fan with her talent.” Davis began her claim to fame in 2008, after her debut in “Doubt,” then was nominated by the Academy Awards for her role in “The Help,” which definitely tugged at everyone’s heartstrings. Viola currently stars in ABC’s “How To Get Away With Murder,” as the sexy, devious and manipulative Annaliese Keating and has recently starred in “Fences,” with Denzel Washington.
In case you need a reminder why Davis is worthy of this star, she was the first ever woman of color to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead actress in a Drama Series last year. You may remember her iconic quote, "The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there." Viola Davis has managed to wow us with every part she has played, showing she truly deserves this accolade. Not only is she an amazing actress, she is standing up for women of color everywhere, and showing that they are real people too, who deal with real issues. Congratulations to Viola Davis on her accomplishment, we can’t wait to see what she does next!
