Bernie Mac Day In Chicago

Steve Harvey and The Original Kings Of Comedy held back tears as they honored their Brother and Co-host Bernie Mac in a heart-warming tribute.  D.L Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer guest starred on Steve Harvey’s daytime talk show this past Monday, Nov 14, to share their most memorable memories from the Kings Of Comedy tour. They also had a special surprise planned for Mac’s high school sweetheart, Rhonda, their daughter, and granddaughter who were sitting in the audience.

While trying to wipe away his tears, Steve presented Rhonda with a proclamation from the city of Chicago and Mayor Rahm Emanuel declaring Nov.14, “Bernie Mac Day”, in Chicago. “I urge all Chicagoans to mark this occasion like Bernie would”, Steve said.

Mike Epps joined the heart touching moment via satellite, live from the Chicago vocational high school, Bernie and Rhonda’s alma mater located in Southside Chicago to present another surprise to Rhonda. Mike Epps and the principal revealed that the auditorium will be renamed in Bernie’s honor. “Bernie Mac paved the way for a lot of great comedians like myself, and it’s a great time to honor this man,” Epps said, as a joyful crowd made up of Mac’s friends and former classmates cheered. “We love Bernie Mac.”

Rhonda was overly touched by the kind acts and fought back tears as she thanked everyone who made it possible.  “I’m so touched, I’m so honored, and I’m always amazed at the outpouring of love people still have for him,” she said. “It just warms my heart that they remember him and love him the way that they do.”
