Taraji P. Henson New Movie “Hidden Figures” Has New Release Date

If you haven’t already heard, Empire star Ms. Taraji is set to star as math genius Katherine Johnson in new film Hidden Figures. Fox 2000 studio has been developing the adaptation of the Margot Lee Shetterly book “Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race,” published by HarperCollins. The true story centers on Johnson, a brilliant African-American mathematician who, along with her colleagues Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson, served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history (the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and his safe return). The three women crossed all gender, race and professional lines while embarking on the mission.

Since the previews have circulated, everyone has been wondering when the release date will be. The film wasn’t supposed to release until early 2017, but since then has scored an early release date on Christmas day in order to enter the 2017 Oscar race. Fox announced the NASA film will get a limited opening on the holiday. Aside from the lead actresses including Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae, the Hidden Figures cast also includes Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge and Kevin Costner. Pharrell Williams is one of the film’s producers. He will also take part in the movie’s soundtrack.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film had been rumored to be in the running for the Oscars after its preview at the Toronto International Film Festival last month. At the time, the film was not completed. Congrats to the three leading ladies and their chance on winning an Oscar.
