That Girl From Around the Way!
Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner, Taraji P Henson, now comes to us with an inspiring memoir about family, friends and the journey from DC to Hollywood. This book takes us through the life of the amazing actress from the hustle to the big pay off. She also reflects on world-class instruction she received from her Alma mater, Howard University. She goes to speak on the pitfalls that are associated with being a black actress as well as the advantages of it all. Taraji shares stories of her father, a Vietnam vet, and her mother who survived violence not only at home but on the streets. The actress opens up about being a single mother and the struggles that came along with that. One quote she mentions in the book is “I'm just a girl who went to Hollywood with my son , $700 and a dream.” The screen actress made sure she kept the memoir humorous , heartfelt and honest.
Taraji held her book signing yesterday afternoon in Manhattan’s Union Square at Barnes & Noble. Fans stood in line as early as 5am that morning to get a chance to chat and have the Empire diva autograph their book. Taraji wore a little black dress paired with tan leather thigh high boots and accompanied with Chanel jewelry. She rocked a fringed bob with a bang with minimal makeup.
Around the Way Girl isn't just about Henson’s challenges and disappointments of her journey. It showcases the outcome of all the trying times from her past which has made her the strong, fearless and down to earth woman that she is today. Anyone who wants to laugh, cry a little, be inspired and uplifted should pick up Around the Way Girl. It's a excellent story and a great read. Maybe we can look forward to a sequel to this memoir. At the rate she's going, I'm sure she'll have much more exciting stories to talk about in this next chapter of her career.
The book is now available for purchase online at sites such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play and more!
